What to Expect

What can you expect when you visit Crossroads for the first time? You can expect to feel like family! Family defines who we are. We hope you enjoy the drive from the city to the country and don’t forget to leave your worries behind. Then, as you wind around that last corner and view our home, take a deep breath and relax, you are among family. Your first impression of the family will be from our Greeters of the Great Outdoors. This is an amazing group of people, but they simply see themselves as enjoying the outdoors, spending time together and looking forward to being the first to welcome you to the Crossroads family. You will then enter our Welcome Center. A place that we hope feels warm and friendly. You will find some more family hanging out, talking and ready to help you, answer your questions and point you in one of two directions. You can head into our Worship Center and find a seat or to the Gathering Place for coffee and donuts. There’s also coffee in the Welcome Center if you just need a “pick me up” before worship. Feel free to hang out in the Welcome Center for awhile. You will find some helpful resources and information about what’s going on at Crossroads. Worship will begin with music at 10:15. Feel free to bring your coffee or drink with you into worship. (But, be sure to dump your trash when you leave – that’s what we expect from family!) Please be sure to fill out one of our Communication Cards located in the pew rack or on the wall if you sit in the back. At the end of worship, you may place that card in the offering basket. If it’s your first visit, don’t forget to stop by the Welcome Center on your way out and pick up a gift bag. This is our way of saying thank you for being a part of our family. In the bag you will find information about Crossroads and how to contact us if you have more questions or need our help in any way.

How should I dress?

We do expect you to be dressed!! But, come comfortable. You will find people dressed in a variety of ways. Some ladies enjoy showing up in a dress occasionally, most come in pants and casual. We do have our blue jean crowd and there is always a few in shorts. We are more concerned with your heart than the latest fashion statement.

What if I have kids?

We’re glad you do! We love kids! If your child is 5 years old and in Kindergarten, they are a welcome part of our service. We try to make our worship “kid friendly.” We believe that the family that worships together, stays together. Feel free to have your child pick up a children’s sermon page and some colored pencils on your way in from the Welcome Center. Don’t worry if they are a little fidgety in the beginning. Learning to worship takes time. And don’t be surprised at what they hear when you think they’re not listening. We know your kids can do a great job of sitting still, paying attention and listening – after all, they do it at school every day. We think kids do a good job of teaching their parents what worship is really about…engaging and interacting with what’s going on. Worship is a participation experience. We do ask that you help your child understand the importance of remaining in their seat during “God’s time.” “God’s time” is our teaching time. This is the time we give our attention to God and limit the amount of movement in the room. There is a bathroom at the back of the sanctuary or just down the hallway from the Welcome Center. Please encourage your child to take care of this before the teaching or “God’s time.”

If you have a baby, toddler or preschooler through age 4 (or 5 before starting Kindergarten) we ask that you use our KIDZville Nursery. KIDZville is located at the end of the hallway as you exit the Welcome Center. A greeter in the Welcome Center will be glad to walk you down to the nursery and help you get your child settled. We have a wonderful volunteer team that is well trained and excited to play with your kids and give you a chance to enjoy worship. We have a sign-in security system to drop off and pick up your child. Background checks are done on all our workers and there is always someone with CPR and first aid training available. We encourage families with small children to use our nursery in order to help create a worshipful environment for everyone. If you have a baby under 6 months that needs to stay with your during worship, we ask that you sit in the back area. Should your baby become a distraction, we have a comfortable Family Room with couches where you can comfort your child and continue to listen to the service. The Family Room is located behind the sound booth in the room on the right. This is also where the bathrooms are located should you need them.

If your kids are older, their activities are on Wednesday night. Our KIDZone is for Kindergarten through 6th grade. They meet from 6:15 pm to 8 pm in the Gathering Place and then break into small groups. Kids are encouraged to eat before they come, but they are welcome to bring their dinner and eat in the Gathering Place if that helps your schedule.

Our Freeway Youth Ministry is for 7th-12th graders. They meet from 6:15 pm to 8 pm in the Youth Room just outside the Welcome Center. Again, your kids are encouraged to eat before they come, but they are welcome to bring their dinner and eat in the Youth Room if that helps your schedule.
